Unity Park
Unity Park, located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is a significant cultural and historical site that highlights the country's heritage and national identity.
Unity Park was inaugurated on October 6, 2019, as part of the celebrations for the 125th anniversary of the establishment of Addis Ababa. It is situated within the Grand Palace area, adjacent to the National Palace.
The park combines modern and traditional Ethiopian architectural styles, making it visually striking and culturally relevant, with all the priceless treasures it holds especially the “Egg Building”. It includes various exhibitions showcasing Ethiopia's rich history, including artifacts, photographs, and documents related to the country's past, particularly its imperial history.
The park houses a museum dedicated to the country's history, including exhibits on Ethiopian emperors, their legacies, and the nation's evolution in the modern era. It also features beautifully landscaped gardens, showcasing a variety of indigenous plants including aromatic ones, trees, and flowers. It is designed to be a peaceful retreat for visitors.
Unity Park is also home to a small zoo and wildlife sanctuary, which aims to preserve endangered species native to Ethiopia, including the Ethiopian wolf and the Gelada baboon, the eye-catching aquarium and aviary.
A central feature of the park is the Unity Monument, symbolizing peace, harmony, and the diversity of Ethiopia’s ethnic groups.
